Poetry & Jazz
When launched by Joel Holmberg in 2001, Poetry & Jazz was simply – as its name suggests – performance poetry interspaced with jazz.
Since then, both words and music have evolved. Programmes now regularly contain poetry, monologues, dialogues and short stories. We often have jazz – John Millar on clarinet and Johanna Pitkänen on piano – but there’s also been classical double bass, folk guitar and even the theremin!
From 2001-2008, performances were held at Café Engel. Arkadia International Bookshop has been our regular venue since 2009.
The Finn-Brit Players presents a new full of programme of Poetry & Jazz twice a year, with the occasional special performance. To date, there have been twenty main and six special programmes, mostly in Helsinki, but one a far afield as Kuopio.
Poetry & Jazz is celebrating its tenth anniversary! The next programme will be:
